I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel around the instincts so much as crystallize and refine my understanding after years of not fully grasping them, nor being able to have productive conversations with most people in the communities about them (outside of a rare precious few). 💅 🫀
Social instinct = hierarchies, networks, public persona, social equity, pop culture, lovers/haters, social movements/critiques, and sure - “belonging.”
Self-Preservation instinct = foundational “supplies” (home, security, food, money, objects, time, energy), environmental comforts, stability, steadiness, equilibrium.
Sexual instinct = chasing/generating chemistry (at risk of SO + SP), chemical romance, churning intrigue, lighting fires/snuffing fires/lighting fires/snuffing fires, hungry atomic sparks, sexual/creative/rupturous/rapturous collision, lust/disgust.
👁️🫦👁️ First instinct struggle vs last instinct struggle 🥴🔫
First instinct = 🧃👀🥵 for the “struggle”
Middle instinct = ✨😈✨ what struggle?
Last instinct = 🥱🛑😭 for the “struggle”
Further…
First instinct = 🥵 for the “struggle”
Fixation, returns again and again even if it sucks, as soon as one thing is resolved a new one crops up, can be source of pleasure or pain that is akin to pleasure in that the person masochistically fixates on it. It’s working in tandem with the core type to feed the ego with a self-confirming narrative.
This is the water someone swims in. 🐠 What they notice most day to day, and are concerned about when it’s missing. There is always something to do or fixate on here.
Middle instinct = ✨ 😈 ✨ what struggle?
Not to say there won’t be times of struggle or disruption (especially if the person has reactive/frustration in type) but this instinct can feel energizing in medium doses or more easily understood in a care-free manner. Low stakes in a looser way - not catastrophic like the last instinct and not constantly churning like the dominant instinct.
Last instinct = 🥱 for the “struggle”
Untenable, a risk to what they really desire to experience (first instinct), avoidable (until it comes crashing down), annoying or disruptive/terrorizing in a way that derails baseline disruptions. A slap to the face 👋.
Can be something they just don’t “get” or care about / think is particularly important (unless it threatens more precious instinctual needs). The focus or fixation the person is quickest to ditch or offload as soon as they can. It holds no / little 🧃🎁 (in their mind).
Take it or leave it? 👋 🕳️ 🤗
First instinct = 🤔 that’s an option? I don’t believe you. Hrm… keep it.
Middle instinct = take it, leave it, wine it, dine it, 69 it 💅.
Last instinct = 🫠 rather not but once a year, twice if he’s lucky.
I don’t personally believe anyone is “blind” in an instinct. 🧑🏻🦯 😎 It’s all about unconscious preferences and comfort and discomfort zones. 🐽 🔥 ☁️ Is this how you 👀 the instincts? 🤔
